Billy the Kid 3
“Whiskey’s what popular, but we’ve got most-a what y’need here. Anythin’ really.” I replied slowly. He translated.
“You- have sake?” He asked after some more Chinamen spoke to him in their language.
“Well, I don’t rightly know.” I flashed them a sweet smile, “but I’ll surely check, ’scuse me gentlemen.” I turned and sauntered up to the bar.
“Will, do we have Sake? The Chinamen want it.” I leaned over the bar and a few of the men wolf whistled. I glanced back with a flirtatious smile, and then grimaced at Will.
“Don’t rightly know, I’ll ask James.” He answered, pushing his glasses up he walked into the back.
When he came back he was holding a tall bottle filled to the brim with liquid.
“How many at the table?” He asked.
“Seven.” I replied, I always did a quick head count, subconsciously. Will handed me a tray with seven glasses and the bottle on it, and I maneuvered myself through the throngs of drunken men back to the most intriguing table.
“Here you are gentlemen.” Most of the girls in the Saloon outright gaped at me, actually calling a Chinaman ‘gentlemen’, they were just Chinamen! But I gave the men a sweet smile, and they grinned back. The younger looking one once again translated for me.
Then an old man with graying hair said something to me in his language, the boy translated, he really was cute in an odd way. “My friend say, you are very sweet, and pretty.”
“Why bells your heart; Thank you.” I spoke to the gentleman who had complimented me, a blush rising to my cheeks, compliments were not usually so sweet, more rude, usually.
I gave them each a glass, and made to pour it for them. But Will came to the table and grabbed my wrist. “Did you make sure these, Chinamen, have money for our drink?”
I was shocked at how rude Will was being. My lips pursed, and blush of embarrassment, mixed with that of an angry one rose to my cheeks, “William! How dare you be so rude to our customers! I do not check for money from the Sheriff, he hasn’t paid his tab for years, and you want me to insult our customers?” I whispered fiercely to him.
“These are Chinamen.” He told me this as if it were to mean something.
“And they can hear you, they are still customers, I have to qualms with them, do you? Remember now that you are not perfect yourself, you are only a barkeep, and you wear glasses.” I snidely spoke to him.
Then Will did something I would have never expected, he hit me. He smacked me square across the cheek. The Sake fell to the ground beside me. The bottle smashed as I hit the ground beside it.
The Chinamen went immediately to their feet and restrained Will.
