Underdog 8

Then she said in a fake motherly voice, “I knew you’d grow up one day but…” She wiped a fake tear “I never knew it’d be so soon! My baby’s growing up!”
“Shut up. I just noticed that your whole parchment is covered with his name. You do know he already graduated… right?” Ray asked.
“Well duh, of course I know that. But I just saw him in a quidditch newsletter, and he’s gotten even hotter! I know what you’re thinking, totally not possible, right?” Ray blinked a couple times and nodded slowly, she was new at this. Obviously Anna loved the thought of her best friend gossiping with her.
“Well it’s true! I’ll show you when we get back to the dorms!”
“Um, ok.” Ray answered looking at her friend with a strained smile, it did sound fun, and besides it was time to grow up.
“Miss Dixie, are you paying attention?” The professor asked.
“Yes Professor.” Rayelle blushed at the lie.
The teacher looked about to say something, but it was already time to go.
Ray practically ran from the room, calling a quick ‘See you later’ to Anna, she headed for Athermancy.
Athermancy was one class that didn’t go by years.
Hermione granger was always in the class, along with plenty of others. Regretfully one of the boys from the team was in here, Fred Weasley.
Rayelle walked into her favorite classroom and sat at the back. She was scared that people would think her brave.
Tonight she was going to revert back to the way she was. A few potions could take care of her hair and Tanner; well he would kill her later.
Setting her books at a table she laid her head on her folded hands and closed her eyes.
Her lack of sleep was catching to her, and soon she fell into a deep and, thankfully, dreamless sleep.
Only to be woken by a thick Athermancy book being slammed onto the tabletop next to her.
She jumped up from her peaceful slumber and nearly shrieked. Looking at the wielder of the book she smiled a shameful smile.
Joren looked at her with his lopsided grin.
Though they were not as close as they once were, they still knew when something was wrong with the other one. They were twins after all.
Joren sat by her and fixed his book on his desk. Ever so often he would glance at his sister as if he wanted to say something.
“Just spit it out Juju.” Rayelle had always called Joren Juju when they were little, just like he had called her…
“Aya, are you alright? You weren’t yourself yesterday. I know it was a really horrible day, but, Tanner will kill you.” Joren leaned toward her. With care in his eyes, there were more people in the class now, but still the professor had not signaled the beginning of class.
“I am fine, and I’m fixing my hair tonight. So mum and dad won’t be upset, as for Tanner, there is nothing I can do. When we get home, he will kill me.”
“That’s a little creepy, your own brother murdering you.” A red head popped his head over Joren’s shoulder, and grinned widely.
Ray immediately went red, and the boys mistook it for anger.
“Look… Ray right?”
“Rayelle.”
“Ok then, Rayelle, I’m sorry about the whole yesterday thing.” The scary part was he actually sounded sincere.
“Hey Fred, what’s new?” Joren had not found that Fred and George pulled that prank on Ray.
“Not much, but me and George were thinking, since Ron and Harry are going to Hermione’s this summer, that you could come to the Burrow, and your sister could hang out with Ginny if she wanted.” Fred offered in an uncharacteristically innocent way.
“That’s sounds awesome, is it OK with your parents?”
“Yeah they love having more kids over, I think they’re barmy.”
“Ok, cool, I’ll owl mum and dad tonight, you wanna come with Aya?” Joren looked at her expectantly.
He wanted her to come and she knew it.
“You need more friends than just Anna.” He added. Joren never did understand why Ray hung out with only one girl. And he put on that face that she could never say no to.
“Fine, I’ll go.” Ray said in an exasperated voice.
I. Do. Not. Want. To. Go!!!!
“Alright then, I’ll owl them tonight and we’ll go home with you on the train.” Joren told Fred. “You do go by Hogwarts express right?”
“Yeah, see you on the train.” Fred grinned, like he had won a billion Galleons.
The rest of the year flew by; Ray’s examinations were a breeze, amazingly. And her hair was back to normal, thankfully she was still breathing too.
All too soon she found herself on the train home, seated next to Joren in a compartment with a group of Gryffindors.
Anna had gone home right after the tests for a funeral after many tears and hugs, Ray had opened up more to Anna over the week too, and they promised to owl just like every year.
Everyone seemed to have forgotten about tough Ray, and just let her sit in her quiet corner of the compartment and read. The train ride was always so long, but this year it seemed to stretch out even further.
