Kylena kept her eyes trained to the floor, avoiding all the glares that were addressed to her, as she made her way to seventh period science.
It was in no way her fault the schools most impressive, not to mention needed, football player twisted his ankle falling down the stairs, while he was pushing her. He did it to himself.
Her white blonde hair hit her shoulders and her bangs were straight across her forehead, and at the moment it made for a perfect shield. She knew they would ridicule her until he was completely healed, and she knew that would possibly be the worst moments of her life.
Unless everyone finding out that she talked to a stuffed bear would count as the worst moment, but of course she loved talking to Isaiah, her small, but oh so lovable, brown teddy bear.
But then no one knew the secret behind what Isaiah really was, her best friend and secret keeper, they didn’t know that he told her things no one else could even imagine, they couldn’t hear him, unless they were a child of Lumosis or Noxarious.
Kylena sat in her seat at the very back of class. She knew that she would probably be shoved from it by one of the more, violent, students that attend this hell they call high school.
And she was right she was force to move three seats up, after Nick’s Posse pushed her out of her seat onto the floor. Everyone quieted, but only a little, when the teacher addressed the class.
She immediately tuned out the teacher as she reached for Isaiah.
“Isaiah, wake up.” She whispered as she set him on the desk. When he didn’t rouse she poked him in the belly, the thing he hated most, even more that snuggling at night.
Isaiah could move when awake, but never did so in public. As he blinked his beady little eyes at her, Kylena smiled.
“G’morning sleepy.” She whispered to him, even though it was nearly three in the afternoon.
Isaiah was not the common perception of a teddy bear, sure he was fluffy and looked fairly cuddly, but he was not. He was kind and patient, but could also be snappy and rude.
“What?” He whined at her. She hated when he whined it made her think of her mother, she was the most annoying creature on two legs. Always whining about one thing or the other, personally Kyle thought someone should swat her like a fly, with a very large fly swatter.
“Isaiah, don’t be like that, I want you to tell me about myself, from what I can’t remember.” Kylena whispered excitedly, making sure no one heard her.
“Kyle, do you think it wise for me to tell you this here, in a crowded classroom? Where the son of Noxarious could easily overhear?” His gaze was stern, and father-like.
“You know very well that I would know if such a person were present, you said it yourself, I may not be able to pin point them, but I would most definitely know. Isaiah, you had better tell me, or I will, leave you at home, in the closet for a week.” Kylena threatened.
For as old and wise Isaiah was, he was still afraid of the dark, mortified would be a better description. He even made Kylena sleep with a night light.
She saw his eyes widen in horror before he took a large breath and blew it out. She knew he would give in.
“Alright, I’ll tell you, but they could be cloaking themselves, and you had better know what your homework is for this class, or your father will be most unpleasant this evening.” Kyle’s nose scrunched up as she thought of it, then she glanced at the board, good thing her teacher was so clueless, he had written the homework on the bored, and where to find the answers. Kyle scribbled it down and then looked at Isaiah expectantly.
Isaiah took a large breathe before plunging in to his story, no matter how many times Kyle had heard it she could never quite believe she had actually lived it.
“Though I was not in the room, for it is said to be bad luck for a man to be present at the time of a birth
. The only person present at the time was the well trusted best friend of the woman in labor, who was also the midwife.
She told me this story.
The only light in the room was that coming from the twin moons in the sky. An infant’s wail pierced the night and the mother gave a huge sigh of relief.
The baby girl was wrapped in a pink blanket and handed Lumosis, her tired, but still so beautiful, mother.
Lumosis was the most powerful being of the light. Her snow white hair was always in a braid, and light gray eyes were always alert. Both of which she had passed onto her daughter, Kylena.
“She will do great things.”
Lumosis was a woman of peace, but the times were not.
Her twin brother, Noxarious, was an evil man. The most powerful being of the Darkness, and he hated everything his sister stood for. He was dark and foreboding. Even to those close to him in his inner circle.
On the very night that Kylena was born, he took to horse.
He came upon a small cottage on the edge of the Land of No Name. A boy was born on that night. His hair was dark and his eyes were a deep green of the forest.
Lumosis had heard of the boy too, he had immense powerful vibrations, while the light was looking for him, so was the dark and Noxarious was faster. He burst into the room his black riding cloak billowing behind him, giving him the appearance of an evil spirit. His regular appearance was not much better.
His black eyes took in the sight, a woman holding her child, the worried husband that had just rushed into the room after the birth, and of course the wailing infant.
“I’ve come for your child. Give him to me.” The woman clung to her child and tried to refuse, but she and her husband were easy to be rid of. With a simple wave of his hand, both parents would never take another breath.
“This is the one.”
“Miss Smith, are you paying attention in my class?” Her teacher asked her. He was a tall, balding, man, with thick glasses. He was the perfect depiction of a geek, and yet he was more popular than her. She did not meet his gaze; she never met anyone’s gaze, when she answered.
“Yes sir.” She answered.
