Kelrah of Delhyn 003

July 17, 2007 at 5:24 pm (Kelrah Of Delhyn)

The morning came soon enough, with the sun creeping through the windows. As instructed Kelrah rose an hour ahead of her roommates and started preparing for her duties.
She pulled her hair up in a bun so it didn’t get near the cleaner, or anything that she would be cleaning. Still in her sleep wear, A overly large gray long sleeve, that constantly slipped off of her shoulder, and a pair of old fighting pants, she pulled on her fur covered boots and coat. Kelrah was so concentrated on getting prepared; she missed an abnormally petite girl lifting herself up on drowsy elbows.
“Just don’t kill him Kel.” The cat-eyed girl told her in a raspy morning voice, a smile set on her lips.
Kel glanced at her friend, the scowl that had been on her face since waking slipped as she smiled at Pip. “I shouldn’t make promises I don’t plan on keeping.” She told her with laughter in her voice.
Pip laughed along as she studied her friend, Kelrah never did realize how beautiful she was.
Her hair changed from a deep blue at the roots to a crystalline white at the tips, with all the shades in between. Her Cheeks were rosy, no matter her situation, and a set of green eyes that popped when you looked at them, that were set in believing in herself, never letting anyone take her down.
“Stop looking at me like that, I have to go. Put some more clothes on Pip, you never know what those boys are up to.” Kel showed her caring side before closing her coat and leaving the room.
“Alright Kel, whatever you say.” Pip mumbled to herself as she lay back down to sleep.
Kelrah walked into the snow world she called home, the wind nearly pushing her back into the building, but she set herself against it and trudged to the corrections office, where she was supposed to meet Benli and Arnav, and then get her supplies.
She was the second to arrive, Arnav stood there at full attention. Kelrah gave him a quick salute and stood at attention beside the doorway.
Her hands behind her back she fought her body to stay awake, even the sun had yet to show its face.
Soon after Benli pushed open the door, looking half frozen himself. The sight made Kelrah smile to herself.
A salute to Arnav and he stood at attention next to her. Arnav didn’t say a word as he scrutinized the two. His bright orange eyes looked at them as if he would skin them alive given the chance. And seeing as he had lost his voice because of them, he probably would.
Kelrah and Benli bowed their heads in shame, and Arnav held out two buckets to them. Telling them, with no words, ‘I hope you’re ready for some cleaning’.
One hour and fifteen minutes later Kelrah yanked open the door to the barrack, battling the wind. Running thorough the narrow gap, the door slammed after her; the sound reverberating off of the metalloid walls.
“Rise and shine o’ friends of mine!” Kelrah called. “Battle in fifteen minutes.”
Thus eliciting groans from various bunks. “What color today?” Nadia asked as she jumped from her bunk and rubbed the sleep from her eyes.
“Green today, tomorrow’s pink, then it’s yellow.” Faree answered sitting up in her lower bunk. Her hair was shoulder length it was usually held in a crown braid about her head, and her eyes a smoldering reddish orange. “You know these color days are ridiculous, I don’t know why we girls have to do them.” Faree’s usual bluntness was not absent this morning either.
“The boys have it too.” Mien said from her bunk atop Faree’s. Her long hair was nearly to her knees falling in gentle waves, big gray eyes rimmed in pink that held boundless innocence accompanied her face as well. All she really wanted was a husband; no one really knew why she was a Wehah.
“Shut up and get ready, all of you. We’re going to be late.” Tiona called from the bathroom.
Tiona was fierce, her black hair was a little below her ears, and was usually messy, and her eyes were charcoal gray. Her face was lightly dusted with freckles, giving her a kind look, she hated those freckles with so much passion Kel was surprised they didn’t up and run off her face.
After a quick wash down Kel put on her green day outfit.
The top had a high collar, and was green until right above her breasts, and then it turned yellow and had triangular designs. The bottom of the shirt fell at an angle over the top of her green shorts. Her short were mid thigh, and had thick yellow buckles around the bottom seam.
Searching through her trunks she found her green arm warmers. They were two thirds the size of her arm, starting two inches down from her shoulders to just past her elbows, turning then into green ribbons that crisscrossed to her wrists.
Then she put on her ankle warmers she tied the Green string around her calf, about an inch above her ankle. Then she put on her yellow shoes letting her warmers fall over her shoes.
Glancing at the other girls, she noted they were all ready. She gave them the signal, and they all walked to the arena.
The arena was a large dome connected to all the barracked through an underground tunnel system. The air in it was controlled to stay warm, so the Wehah in training could fight in warmer climates as well.
Stopping in the weapons room they all grabbed the battle weapons. Kel grabbed the long golden chain that was her special weapon, it hooked at her waist but still fell to her knees, and she grabbed her knaff.
The long wooden staff that they used in training instead of a koohola; a staff which has razors at each end. They used such so no one died in practice combat. Each Wehah in training had their own knaff, with their name carved into the wood.
When the other girls had their own weapons Kel casually asked, “who’s ready to kick some Betngal butt?”
“That depends on if we can do it in style” Nadia added with a grin.
“No worries about that, I’m here.” Pip joked.
“and if we need a bubblegum princess Mien is here.” Tiona said with a smile, even Mien laughed at this.
“Bring them on!” Faree said holding her knaff at ready.
“Yeah! Oh and Kel, please no toying with the poor boys, though entertaining, Arnav already has you on his list.” Mien added.
“Too right Mien.” Kel said and the pushed open the twelve foot door to the sound of up roaring applause.

  1. Terri said,

Haha, I am excited to read what happens in the actual battle. The girls have this friendly banter that I really enjoyed to read, although why is the bubblegum princess Mien? I guess I don’t get why that is, but maybe it was mentioned before I just don’t remember when. *shrug* Anyways, I am going to go and read the next chapter. Oh! There were a few mistakes in this chapter, such as capitalizing Green and such minor things as that. Maybe read over it again.
